Welcome to the Australian Art Music playlist! A monthly playlist of classical, jazz, experimental and electronic music focused on contemporary Australian composers, musicians and sound artists.
We’re going big or going home this month with a range of orchestra concertos for double basses (both 1 and 8!), bass clarinet, and shakuhachi. Many of these works are multi-movements so I’ve picked one as a jumping off point to whet your appetite for these longer pieces. The playlist also features music for other large ensembles beyond the orchestra, such wind symphony, big band, jazz dectet and even the soundtrack for an acrobatic circus show. I hope you enjoy your tasting platter of the mammoth, enormous, and huge range of music Australia has to offer.
