Australia’s Jean Valjean takes time out from manning the barricades eight times a week.

1. Three pieces of music you love:
I don’t listen to a lot of opera and my knowledge of it is staggeringly poor but – E Lucevan le Stelle from Tosca.
Sara Bareilles’ cover of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. I only heard this a couple of months ago and loved it straight away.
Damien Rice’s Blower’s Daughter is just one of those songs that’s there for me when I need it most.

2. Three recordings everyone should own:
My album, Elements – when it’s released mid this year. Shameless plug anyone?
Glenn Gould’s Bach Goldberg Variations. I don’t know why but I love listening to this up high with my headphones on to hear him hum along as he plays.
Jimmy Scott – Holding Back the Years.

3. Three musical heroes:
John Farnham
Jeff Buckley
Crowded House

4. Three really underrated musicals:
Merrily We Roll Along
