In 2023, independent touring organisation Music in the Regions hits the road for a second year of bringing classical and new Australian music to regional towns across East Australia. 

On the inaugural tour, the Acacia Quartet brought performances of Mozart, Borodin and Alice Chance to traditional and makeshift concert halls. The aim was to “not only extend but embed” classical music within towns beyond the Big Smoke.

Joining the organisation for its first tour of this year are the Melbourne-based Inventi Ensemble, a unit already well versed in bringing music to a wider community, as evidenced by its Music Space program, which brings performances to aged care facilities.

This time, the ensemble has its eyes set on rural Australia. From 6–13 May, Inventi will tour with Music in the Regions through country towns across Victoria and New South Wales – Wodonga, Junee, Young, Ganmain, Jerilderie and Deniliquin – five of them hosting a Music in the Regions tour for the first time.
