I lived in Sydney as a child and my brother, who was three years older than me, sang in a church choir. I joined the choir too when I was six or seven. Oh my God, I loved it so much! Then we moved back to Brisbane and I joined the church choir by myself. We weren’t at all religious, though we went to religious schools, but I absolutely loved the church choir.

I also learned the guitar as a child. I had a teacher who was a tough Dutch guy. My father used to take me and sit in the corner and watch, which was a bit terrifying. I went to school in Switzerland and continued with the guitar, but I wasn’t very successful. Then I went to school in England and was part of a choir again, which I loved.
