The sunshine state music industry has been celebrated in the annual Queensland Music Awards, presented by QMusic, hosted on the Gold Coast and judged by a panel of over 100 Australian and international industry professionals.

Brisbane indie favourites Ball Park Music claimed two major prizes, taking Album of the Year and Highest Selling Album in a standout double win. Jem Cassar-Daley also enjoyed a strong night, winning the Pop Award and Song of the Year for Kiss Me Like You’re Leaving, the second time she has claimed the top songwriting honour.

In the contemporary classical category, presented by Griffith University, Abigail Lui and Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra were recognised for Memory in the Distant Hills – a work inspired by the landscape around Warwick, QLD.

Tenzin Choegyal won the World Award for Snow Flower.

Community broadcaster 4ZZZ received the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of its long-standing contribution to Queensland music over almost five decades. Presenter Quentin Ellison said the honour belonged to the station’s volunteers, artists and listeners.

Hollow Coves was named Export Artist of the Year, while dance star Fisher won Highest Selling Single for Stay. Young Franco took out the Electronic Award for Lose Control.

Among the industry honours, Odd Mob was named Breakthrough Artist, JUNGAJI won Indigenous Artist of the Year and Mallrat was recognised as Producer of the Year.

People’s Choice Awards went to Maleny Music Festival (Festival of the Year), Brisbane’s Tivoli (Metro Venue of the Year) and QMA host venue Miami Marketta (Regional Venue of the Year).
