The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra announces its 2014 season, unveiling a program of diverse repertoire and international soloists.

The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra has today announced its season for 2014, set to open on Valentine’s Day with a performance of Tchaikovksy’s Romeo and Juliet led by Scottish conductor Garry Walker.

Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Lior and Australian composer Nigel Westlake are set to join forces with the orchestra in February for their work Compassion – a rapturous new song cycle sung in Arabic and Hebrew.

Arvo Volmer will return as the orchestra’s principal guest conductor, set to lead concerts as part of the Adelaide International Cello Festival in April. Concerts will feature the talents of esteemed American cello virtuoso, Lynn Harrell.

Young Australian conductor Nicholas Carter is set to make his debut as the orchestra’s Associate Guest Conductor in May, leading the orchestra and Symphony Chorus in a performance of Carl Orff’s iconic choral masterpiece Carmina Burana.

In September, British conductor Mark Wigglesworth returns to conduct Mahler’s mighty Fifth Symphony, while Beethoven’s heroic Emperor Piano Concerto will be performed in separate programs by British pianist Stephen Hough and American pianist Robert Levin.
