ABC Classic is bringing back its Classic Choir for 2023, hosted in-person for the very first time. 

Members of choirs from all around Australia can sign up to add its performance to the choir’s repertoire and access one of four works commissioned by the Choir. In honour of this year’s performances, the choir has commissioned a new work from Elena Kats-Chernin, setting a text by Gunai poet Kirli Saunders.

Now in its fourth year, the Choir was established in 2020 for virtual performances, as a way of banding together choristers and music-lovers across the country during COVID restrictions. The Choir has performed alongside recordings made by the Adelaide, Queensland and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, and featured vocal groups such as the Australian Vocal Ensemble and the Adelaide Chamber Singers.
