SeasonPreview: Your guide to the arts in 2025

 

Adelaide Symphony Orchestra has launched its 2025 season, the inaugural year of its new Chief Conductor Mark Wigglesworth.

It’s a “new chapter” for the orchestra, says CEO Colin Cornish, with the ambition to match, with every Brahms symphony, every Beethoven piano concerto and a huge international commission on the menu.

“Music releases us to connect with very deep emotions within ourselves, and shows us how connected these emotions with other people’s. Music brings us together in an unshakeable way, generating extraordinary empathy towards each other,” said Wigglesworth.

One of 2025’s centrepiece events that showcase Wigglesworth’s vision for the orchestra is the Born in Vienna  (21–22 November) series, a weekend of music featuring the orchestral epics of composers including Beethoven, Mozart and Haydn. Another is a performance of Mozart’s Requiem in St Peter’s Cathedral (19–20 September).
