The Adelaide Youth Orchestras has appointed award-winning clarinettist and educator Lloyd Van’t Hoff to the key artistic leadership role of Artistic Director following an international search.
Van’t Hoff will take up the position in June 2026, succeeding long-serving music director Keith Crellin, who retires after more than two decades with the organisation.
The appointment coincides with AdYO’s 25th anniversary year and follows a recruitment process that attracted candidates from Australia and overseas.

Van’t Hoff said he was honoured to lead an organisation “where young people discover their artistry, confidence and sense of belonging,” adding he looked forward to building on Crellin’s legacy and shaping an “ambitious and inspiring next chapter”.
Crellin, who has led AdYO since 2002, is credited with mentoring thousands of young musicians and lifting the orchestra to international standards. Board chair Catherine Baldwin described his contribution as “immeasurable”.
Crellin will remain involved in the anniversary year, conducting a gala concert at Adelaide Town Hall on 27 June. Van’t Hoff is set to make his debut as Chief Conductor at the same venue on 26 September.
Currently Head of Woodwind at the Elder Conservatorium, Van’t Hoff came to national prominence after winning the 2015 ABC Symphony Australia Young Performer of the Year. He performs widely as a soloist and chamber musician and holds leadership roles with several ensembles.
AdYO supports more than 280 young musicians across six ensembles, presenting around 20 performances annually.
