The Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) has announced that its Chief Conductor Umberto Clerici has secured a two-year contract extension, solidifying his position until the close of 2027.
A cellist with an international career, Clerici’s background in performance has informed his leadership style since he took the reins of QSO in 2023, one that blends musical rigour, a collaborative spirit with an audience-friendly personality. He has also demonstrated an ability to attract high-caliber guest conductors and soloists to further amplify QSO’s reputation.

“I want to continue to stretch the orchestra’s abilities and artistic scope, extending the musicians’ participation toward an even more engaged, energetic and passionate playing,” said Clerici of his future ambitions.
