A major fire in the Bösendorfer piano factory in Vienna, Austria on Wednesday night has destroyed parts of the building and the archives of the esteemed firm of piano-makers.

According to a report in Austria’s Die Presse, four fire departments and almost 100 fire fighters were deployed. Their combined efforts ensured that the factory floor was protected.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are underway. According to police reports, officers from the Lower Austria State Criminal Police Office and experts from Austria’s Federal Criminal Police Office are involved.

Owned by Yamaha since 2008, Bösendorfer’s Wiener Neustadt factory produces almost 300 high-end, handcrafted instruments per year.
