After a recent string of sold-out concerts including one at Carnegie Hall, Israeli violinist and conductor Maxim Vengerov will tour to Australia in August.

Accompanied by Russian pianist Polina Osetinskaya, Venegrov will perform in Brisbane (5 August), Melbourne (7 August) and Sydney (10 August) in what will make up part of a celebration of the violinist’s 50th birthday. Marking 42 years of his public performance career, the program is set to include works by Ravel, Frank and Prokofiev.

Vengerov began his career as a solo violinist at five years old. By 10 he had made his first recording and was loaned his first Stradivarius violin. Since then, he has recorded for labels including Decca, EMI and Deutsche Grammophon. He was the first classical musician to be appointed an International Goodwill Ambassador by UNICEF, and was the first Chief Conductor of the Gstaad Festival Orchestra.

In 2004, Vengerov won the Grammy for Best Instrumental Soloist Performance (with Orchestra) for his performance with the London Symphony Orchestra. He...
