Strauss, Berlioz, Elgar and Grainger feature as Sir Andrew Davis takes his Aussie band on the road.

The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will make its debut at the BBC Proms this August to be followed by high profile performances at four of the world’s biggest music events including the Edinburgh Festival. The two-week international tour will be the orchestra’s first in seven years.

“For me, to personally be taking the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra to the Proms and to Edinburgh, the two great summer festivals in the UK, is particularly exciting,” said the MSO’s Chief Conductor Sir Andrew Davis.

A hugely popular Chief Conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra for many years, the Proms have chosen to recognise Davis, who celebrated his 70th birthday in February, by inviting him to bring the MSO to London. “It’s a short tour but it’s a very prestigious one, and one I’m very excited about because this is a very happy association for me,” said Sir Andrew.

The Proms concert will see the orchestra playing a quintessential English work and an Andrew Davis speciality – Elgar’s cello concerto. “I love the Orchestra, I’m very proud of the Orchestra, and I think we’ll give some absolutely stunning concerts,”...
