The beneficiaries of Creative Australia’s Playing Australia Project Investment funding have been announced.

The program supports organisations to undertake performing arts tours to reach regional and remote communities across Australia.

Among the recipients are Darwin Symphony Orchestra, which undertakes a Northern Territory Tour; First Nations dance theatre Saltbush will engage with communities in regional Victoria, South Australia and the ACT, and Monkey Baa’s immersive visual theatre production Where is the Green Sheep?, adapted from the beloved children’s book by Mem Fox and Judy Horacek, will tour to 53 communities across Australia, with 218 performances.

South Australian company Brink Productions’ presentation of Looking for Alibrandi, adapted by Vidya Rajan from Melina Marchetta’s book and directed by Stephen Nicolazzo, will tour to regional centres. Brisbane’s shake & stir will tour its version of George Orwell’s 1984 nationally.

Creative Australia’s Executive Director of Arts Investment Alice Nash said:

“Playing Australia provides opportunities for performers to reach and connect with diverse audiences and gives audiences in regional and remote Australia the ability to experience the magic of performing arts.”
