Season Preview: Your guide to the arts in 2023

Violinist Sophie Rowell has announced her inaugural season as the third Artistic Director of Melbourne Chamber Orchestra.

The season of six orchestral concerts will be held at Melbourne Recital Centre, and engages distinguished Melbourne performers such as ARIA Award-winners recorder virtuoso Genevieve Lacey and singer-songwriter Lior, as well as Finnish pianist Paavali Jumpannen, the Artistic Director of the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM).

The 2023 season also features Australian composers Melody Eötvös, Stuart Greenbaum and Ross Edwards, as well as commissioned works from Caerwen Martin, Ade Vincent and Lior in a lineup that features more female composers than the MCO’s “previous 31 orchestral seasons combined”.
