SeasonPreview: Your guide to the arts in 2025

Adelaide audiences are set for a transformative 2025 as the State Theatre Company South Australia (STCSA) unveils a seven-show program of contemporary dramas, classic revivals, musical debuts and new works.

Launched by outgoing Artistic Director Mitchell Butel, who will take up the reins of Sydney Theatre Company from 2025 after six years in Adelaide, STCSA’s season will explore diverse themes ranging from the personal to the political.

“It’s a season full of works about making a change and making a difference,” said Butel. “I hope the shows we’ve created and shared in that time have changed you and left their mark.”

The season opens with Housework, a world premiere by acclaimed playwright Emily Steel. Set in the high-stakes world of Australian politics, this satirical comedy offers a behind-the-scenes look at Canberra’s corridors of power. Comedians Susie Youssef and Emily Taheny feature in a wry commentary on the clash between ambition and personal integrity.
