Season Preview: Your guide to the arts in 2023

Nestled in the Adelaide Hills since 2015, UKARIA has established itself as one of Australia’s leading and artistically adventurous (not to mention scenic) chamber music venues. Its 2023 spring-summer program – just released – cements that reputation with a series of concerts by internationally regarded artists and leading lights in Australian music.

Among those making their UKARIA debuts are the Belgian trumpet virtuoso Jeroen Berwaerts, guitar sensation Campbell Diamond, the brilliant Russian violinist Ilya Gringolts and Berlin’s edgy Vision String Quartet.

UKARIA also welcomes back musicians and ensembles with whom it forged a lasting personal connection, including Diana Doherty, Ensemble Liaison, Konstantin Shamray, Kristian Winther, Aura Go, Meg Washington and Paul Hankinson.

Who better to herald the arrival of spring than trumpeter Jeroen Berwaerts? In a recital (3 September) showcasing his burnished brass tone and brilliance across genres (from Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue to Ligeti’s Mysteries of the Macabre), listeners will also hear the Australian premiere of Japanese composer Toshio Hosokawa’s Im Nebel, with Berwaerts accompanied by Konstantin Shamray.
