The Australian arts community and many more besides were saddened to hear of the death Lex Marinos.

His family confirmed the news in a brief statement to social media.

“It is with heavy hearts we let you know that Lex passed away peacefully on Friday morning,” the statement read. “He died at home, surrounded by family and the sounds of Bob Dylan, with so much love in the room.”

Born on 1 February 1949 in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, to Greek immigrant parents, Alexander ‘Lex’ Marinos grew up navigating the complexities of dual identity in post-war Australia. His Greek heritage deeply influenced his worldview and career, giving him a unique voice in the country’s cultural landscape.
