Voting has now opened for ABC Classic’s annual Classic 100 poll for 2024.

This year, the name of the game is Feel Good, with ABC Classic asking listeners to “vote with their hearts” for the tracks that uplift, delight and inspire them.

Voting closes on 3 June. The results will be revealed across 8–9 June, live on air, as ABC Classic counts down through the top 100 works.

“Together, we’re out to create the ultimate feel-good collection that we can all go to when we want to feel on top of the world,” said ABC Classic Manager Kat McGuffie.

For the second year in a row, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will perform a program of highlights from the Classic 100 list, conducted by Benjamin Northey. The concert will take place on 20 June at Hamer Hall, and can also be caught on ABC TV and ABC iview.

On 19 July, ABC Classic will also release a 4CD album, offering a selection of the winning works. Pre-orders for the album are available now.

This year is the 23rd year of the Classic 100. In 2023, the poll asked listeners to vote for their favourite instrument. The cello ranked in first place, followed by the piano and violin. Instruments such as the typewriter, gumleaf and cannon also made the cut. With over 170,000 votes cast, it was the second-most popular ABC Classics poll ever conducted.

“The feeling of being buoyed is just so delicious, and I personally can’t get enough of that!” said Classic Breakfast presenter Megan Burslem.

“I’m constantly surprised at how such a range of musical sounds, from the sublime to the raucous, can lift us.”
