You don’t actually need to have seen the movie to enjoy the stage show, as the music and performances are terrific in their own right, but there is added pleasure in recalling the scene in which each song appeared – from Hugh Grant’s Prime Minister shaking his booty around 10 Downing Street to The Pointer Sisters’ Jump (For My Love) to Emma Thompson weeping in her bedroom to Joni Mitchell’s Both Sides Now.

Christmas Actually was created by Naomi Price, the Artistic Director of Brisbane’s The Little Red Company, and Adam Brunes, the company’s Managing Director. The show premiered in Brisbane in 2018 with Price as the leading lady, and has been staged annually since. Such is the demand, that this year there are two productions running concurrently: one in Brisbane starring Price; the another at the Sydney Opera House (following performances in Parramatta and Mackay), starring cabaret artist Libby O’Donovan.
