Celebrating the first Saturday night of this year’s Adelaide Fringe and Hans’ (ahem …) 21st, fans and stalkers came out in force to see this international superstar and local hero.

Backed by his loyal band, The Ungrateful Bastards, and flanked by the spunky-hunky Lucky Bastard dancers, Hans emerged from a giant birthday cake and the party roared into fourth gear with Let’s Get Loud and Stayin’ Alive.

Pausing briefly to remind fans that he is to be worshipped and not disrespected, Hans treated the audience to a lesson in how to deal with nasty online trolls. If you want to take on Hans, make sure that you’re not elderly or have hair colour matching Donald Trump’s. However, Hans is at his most lethal and funny when he is out in the audience with his accordion, a “pussy posse” led by a real ‘Karen’ and his regular stalker, Pauline.

As well as a blatant marketing tool to push the merch (Hans tea towel, anyone?), a pass-the-parcel game led to some hilarious audience interaction. I had to give Hans advice on why he has not found Mr....
