Trevor Ashley’s camper-than-camp, adults-only pantos are fast becoming an end-of-year Sydney tradition.

Parodying musicals, films and TV shows, with plenty of social satire thrown in, his previous productions include The Lyin’ Queen, The Bodybag, Fat Swan and last year’s Moulin Scrooge!

This year, he goes under the sea with a mash-up called The White Mermaid or The Little Lotus. No prizes for guessing which much-loved family movie and cult TV series he is referencing.

“How far and how low can we go?” quips Ashley as he opens the show in sparkly drag. Well, it depends how easily offended you are, but Ashley and his co-writer Phil Scott certainly don’t hold back. The show is bawdy, vulgar, unashamedly tasteless at times and mostly very funny. The script rarely bothers with innuendo, but just tells it straight (as it were).

Ashley, who also directs, has brought back the same cast that he worked with on Moulin Scrooge! – Carlotta, Jakob Ambrose, Stephen Madsen and Jarrod Moore, who each go for broke.
