I’m starting to wonder whether I have magical unwanted rain-bringing powers. We just had a concert with Queensland Symphony Orchestra cancelled in Cairns; when it should have been warm and sunny, it was cool, grey and wet. Just call me Guy La Niña-Noble. I have performed at numerous events, where I am amazed that the audience even bothered turning up to sit in the damp as we played our pretty tunes.
There was an Opera in the Vineyards in the Hunter Valley on a miserable night, during which the sky turned thunderous with rain even before the concert began. The audience were given clear plastic ponchos, and as I came on stage I made the observation that they looked like a sea of used condoms. They sat staunchly, listening to our music as the water dripped down. We sent Teddy Tahu Rhodes out to do a bit of ‘Toreador’ audience engagement and he came back looking like a sodden dog.
There was a concert at Leeuwin Estate with Yvonne Kenny and David Hobson....
Guy…
These stories and anecdotes make us what we are. Resilient? Or just plain stupid? Crikey. It makes great reading and brings back memories of performing in outrageous conditions over many years here and overseas. Retirement rocks!
