West Australian choreographer Kimberley Parkin’s contemporary dance work Cry Baby is a step back in time to when rock & roll was king.

Featuring three dancers and three musicians (on drums, electric guitar and bass) and melding feel-good, impulsive movement with larger-than-life rock riffs and salutes to iconic stars such as Janis Joplin, Iggy Pop and Mick Jagger, Cry Baby is about to have its New South Wales premiere in the Sydney Dance Company’s INDance mini-festival taking place in the Neilson Studio at the Wharf.

All of which made Limelight curious. What’s rocking Parkin’s world right now?

She was kind enough to share.

“This is a new discovery. Adigéry is a Belgian electronic-pop artist and my sister lives in the same town as her,” says Parkin. “I love the chaotic energy and clever use of laughter to design an off-kilter club beat.”
