This year, the Australian Musical Theatre Festival in Launceston, Tasmania turns five. “It feels like a grown-up festival now,” says Artistic Director Tyran Parke, as he discusses the 2024 program with Limelight.

The headline artists include Josh Piterman, who starred in The Phantom of the Opera in Australia in 2022 and recently played Jean Valjean in Les Misérables in London’s West End, and two other Les Mis alumni – Patrice Tipoki who played Fantine in Australia and the West End, and Kerrie Anne Greenland who played Eponine in Australia.

Along with performers including Queenie van de Zandt and Natalie Gamsu, they will present their own shows while also appearing in other festival events, including the main musicals.

All up, 19 events will take place over five days in a range of venues from Launceston’s picturesque Cataract Gorge to a hotel bar to a backstage Ghostlight tour at the historic Princess Theatre, originally built in 1911.
