Over the course of their final year, students at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music are entrusted with the freedom to embark on a collaborative project in the form of whatever they’d like.
The subject, the Music Specialist Creative Project, brings together students from across classical, composition, contemporary and jazz degrees and this year’s final projects, ranging from recorded albums to improvisational performances to an ethically-sourced sound library, is as varied as the musicians who take part.

Across 12–13 October, these students will showcase their projects in New Creatives, a free two-day festival that provides students with a platform to share their works, live on stage.
Ahead of New Creatives, Limelight talks to three different groups to learn more about their projects and what the opportunity for interdisciplinary collaboration has meant for them.
