JS Bach’s Four Duets for Violin and Cello, arranged here for violin and trombone, and Felix Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No. 2 bookend the Danish String Quartet’s Sønderho Bridal Trilogy. Dating back centuries and originally played on the Hardanger fiddle, these Nordic folk tunes are still played at weddings on the island of Fanø. Each part of the trilogy corresponds to a shot that bridal couples traditionally drink on their wedding day. Sweet, sour and bitter, they represent the trials and tribulations of married life.
