West Australian Symphony Orchestra: Baroque Brilliance
Australian Brandenburg Orchestra’s Concertmaster Shaun-Lee Chen directs a program of Baroque masterworks that includes In furore iustissimae irae sung by Sara Macliver. One of Vivaldi’s three surviving motets for soprano, it was written in Rome during Carnival season between 1722 and 1724. Other program highlights include Le Chaos from Rebel’s Lés Élémens, which is famed for its “harmonic confusion” and still considered avant-garde by today’s standards; a violin concerto by Pisendel, who studied under Vivaldi; and Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks as a finale.
