Liza Lim has been made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her “significant service to the performing arts as a music composer and academic” in the 2023 King’s Birthday Honours announced today, Monday 12 June.

Lim is one of several prominent music and arts figures mentioned in the Birthday Honours, announced by the Governor-General, David Hurley. Almost 1200 Australians received recognition for their work this year.

“I’m honoured and very humbled to receive this award,” said Lim. “To me it affirms the importance of music and of music education to a culturally diverse and inclusive Australia. Music changes lives – music’s power gives you ways of reaching parts of yourself that nothing else can. Music is for everyone.”

A highly regarded figure in Australian music, Lim is known for her intricately sensuous scores, with cross-cultural practice at the heart of her music.
