The Sydney International Piano Competition has announced the 12 competitors selected to progress to the semi-finals, after the conclusion of the final preliminary round on Monday 10 July.

The semi-finalists are: Carter Johnson, Yungyung Guo, Korkmaz Can Sağlam, Jeonghwan Kim, Uladzislau Khandohi, Philipp Lynov, Junyan Chen, Vitaly Starikov, Yuanfan Yang, Reuben Tsang, Wynona Yinuo Wang and Junlin Wu.

After performing two 20 and 30-minute recitals in the preliminary round, each semi-finalist will perform one 70-minute solo recital, alongside a chamber music recital, comprising two works to be performed with either violinist Andrew Haveron or cellist Li-Wei Qin.

One Australian has been chosen to proceed to the semis. Nineteen-year old Reuben Tsang received a late invitation to join the competition after the departure of another competitor. He is the second-youngest competitor to compete in this round.
