The Sunshine Coast Chamber Music Festival certainly packs a lot into just a few short days. It ping-pongs around quite a few different spots on the coast (Caloundra and Maroochydore) and in the hinterland (Beerwah and Buderim), giving audiences a terrific chance to explore the surrounding areas, with yet another gorgeous beach or picturesque landscape around every corner.

I can also tell you, by the way, that a surf club beer looking out over the water is even better after you’ve been to a concert just moments beforehand.

I couldn’t get to the whole thing. SCCMF began on a Thursday – difficult for us working Brisbane-ites – so I missed out on performances that, from chatting to various audience members, sounded brilliant.

Thursday evening saw the Orava Quartet playing Schubert and Schulhoff as well as a Queensland premiere from Holly Harrison, while Friday saw a welcome ceremony with Aunty Helena Gulash, Lyndon Davis, Deline Briscoe, alongside Topology. Later that evening was also Elena Kats-Chernin and Tamara-Anna Cislowska in four-hand piano format playing Kats-Chernin’s own music, which I hear was an absolute cracker.
