Musica Viva Australia: Garrick Ohlsson
In 1972, an unknown American stunned everyone by winning the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. Today, Garrick Ohlsson is one of the world’s most sought-after pianists. On this visit to Australia, he performs two different programs, with Schubert, Liszt and Scriabin on one, and Debussy, Barber and Chopin on the other. Both feature the world premiere of Convocations, written by Hobart-based composer Thomas Misson and commissioned by Musica Viva donor Stephen Johns for his wife Michele’s birthday.
