Rob Hao: Schubert Overwritten
Pianist and composer Rob Hao pairs Schubert’s piano music with his own contemporary response, as well as those by Helmut Lachenmann, Elena Kats-Chernin and Liszt. The program also includes the Australian premiere of Michael Finnissy’s Vervollstandidung von Schuberts D840, a contemporary completion of Schubert’s unfinished Sonata, Reliquie, commissioned by Israeli pianist Yehuda Inbar in 2017.

First performed in 1845, this lyrical masterpiece has been a “faithful companion” of Yoo since childhood, and one she says she loves playing more and more. The performance marks her debut with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Principal Guest Conductor Xian Zhang.
