Melbourne Symphony Orchestra has announced Naomi Dodd as its 2024 Cybec Young Composer in Residence.
Dodd’s residency was revealed during the unveiling of the MSO’s 2024 season and will lead to the premiere a new work in a concert on 3 October at Hamer Hall that also features cellist Steven Isserlis.

Dodd’s residency follows her acceptance as one of four emerging composers in the MSO’s 2023 Cybec Young Composers Program. Marking its 20th anniversary this year, the program commissions a 10-minute work from each artist and offers orchestral workshops alongside mentorship from leading Australian composers in the development of their pieces.
Speaking to Limelight in January, Dodd said her acceptance letter into the program made her “literally dance around the room” in excitement.
“I’m so grateful to be able to write for a professional Australian orchestra, being distinctly aware of how invaluable and rare an opportunity like this is for young composers. All the musicians were so encouraging and eager.”
