Season Preview: Your guide to the arts in 2023

Sixty years to the day since The Australian Ballet was first founded, Artistic Director David Hallberg has unveiled his third season with the company.

As much a celebration of the The Australian Ballet’s 60th anniversary as it is a showcase for the extraordinary talents of its dancers, the program will revisit some of the company’s most iconic productions, realigning them with fresh perspectives, as well as premiering new works by two of the country’s most groundbreaking choreographers. The season will also see its first collaboration with the Australian Dance Theatre and play host to The Tokyo Ballet, which will play an exclusive engagement in Melbourne.

The season gets underway with a brand-new stage adaptation of Rudolph Nureyev and Robert Helpmann’s legendary 1973 film Don Quixote. Nureyev choreographed the ballet on the Australian stage in 1970, but this will be the first time his onscreen version is given a live treatment.
