The 2024 Adelaide Cabaret Festival was still in full swing when its Board announced that Virginia Gay will return to the role of Artistic Director in 2025.

Gay said she was “absurdly honoured” to continue her stewardship of the festival in what will be its 25th anniversary year.

“This wonderful festival fills my heart so deeply and so truly, and it has been such a delight to tumble out into the foyers with you, see you glittering in all your finery, and excitedly jump up and down with you about what we’ve just seen,” she added.

In June, Lissa Twomey announced that she was to leave The Australian Ballet after just 18 months in the role of Executive Director. Appointed in October 2022, she took up the position in December that year following the departure of Libby Christie, who spent 10 years as the company’s ED. The TAB Chair, Dr Richard Dammery, said that Twomey was “working with us to ensure a smooth transition”.
