Bach’s monumental Christmas Oratorio, originally six cantatas tracing the biblical story from Christmas Eve to Epiphany, is now commonly performed in two extended sittings.
Following their acclaimed 2023 performance of the first three cantatas, Sydney Philharmonia’s Chamber Singers and the Sydney Philharmonic Orchestra return under the assured direction of Associate Music Director Elizabeth Scott to present the final three, joined by four outstanding soloists.
Jacqueline Porter sings with striking sensitivity and dramatic flair, her versatile voice well-suited to the demands of the repertoire. Hannah Fraser’s poised stage presence and expressive mezzo captivate the audience, while Christopher Richardson’s glimmering bass-baritone conveys gravitas and authority. As evangelist and tenor soloist, John Longmuir moves effortlessly between fiery coloratura and reflective recitative.
Woven into the program are interludes by the recipients of the inaugural Sydney Philharmonia Choirs Emerging Composer Awards.
