Welcome to the Australian Art Music playlist! A monthly playlist of classical, jazz, experimental and electronic music focused on contemporary Australian composers, musicians and sound artists.
Musicians need support to keep creating the music you love. So, moving forward I’ll be hosting the playlist on Bandcamp and BuyMusic.Club where you can listen to and buy digital or physical copies of your favourites each month. I’m buying a digital copy of every album featured and I invite you all to join me!
This month’s playlist is a melting pot of different ideas and practices, all responding to a changing world and a changing self. Many speak to world events or the environment. Each has a story to tell through constant evolution and change.
Many of the pieces featured this month are deeply interconnected with larger wholes, be it album, song cycle, or multi-movement work, and so more than ever I strongly encourage you to go listen to the full album releases of any track that has spoken to you!
Some personal highlights include preview tracks for upcoming albums (I’m very excited now): Over Melting Seas by Elissa Goodrich, and wings by Sarah Elise Thompson; the wild soundworld of the Tasmanian Mountain Harp in Karlin Love’s Plasmodium; and the blurring of bird and human musicians in Stephen Adam’s Night side from Sunset inside the listening room.
