The nominations for the Ivors Classical Awards have been announced in London today.

This year, 36 works are nominated for an Ivor Novello Award across eight categories. Winners will be revealed at an evening awards ceremony on 14 November at BFI Southbank in London.

Two Australian composers are in the running for the prestigious award. Brett Dean (who picked up an Ivor last year for his song cycle Madame ma bonne sœur) is nominated twice for his Charles Darwin-inspired work In This Brief Moment.

Newton Armstrong has been nominated for his chamber work The Book of the Sediments, a piece informed by the accumulation of sediments on the ocean floor.
