After 11 years as Artistic Director of Queensland Ballet, Li Cunxin is to leave the company at the end of the year due to ill health. He has struggled to recover after having heart surgery and needs to take time to prioritise his well-being.

The former dancer turned stockbroker, who is known as Mao’s Last Dancer following the publication of his memoir, has expanded QB and boosted its international reputation. His wife, Mary Li, the company’s ballet mistress and principal répétiteur, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2022, will retire with him.

Jacqui Smith has joined the Australian Haydn Ensemble as CEO. Smith holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Sydney. Her previous roles include leadership positions at the University of Sydney and University of Technology, Sydney in creative faculties and portfolios, including the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
